Below
is a rather eclectic list of books I've recently read and enjoyed.
Their common bond is excellent story telling and writing by talented
authors. I highly recommend any of these books for your reading
pleasure, and also suggest that you visit the authors' sites.
I'll be adding to this list from time to time, so please check
back again. Enjoy! -Steven Douglas Womack
The children of Rhinebeck are not safe. They have been disappearing
since 1900, without a trace. The lives of the three sisters who
own the inn, become forever altered when thirteen year old Morgan
disappears in the middle of the night when her family lie sleeping.
The sisters’ Scottish upbringing, with all of its tales
of evil birds always seemed like old wives’ tales; until
the crows began behaving oddly and the sisters swear that when
it rains, they can hear children’s voices on the night air.
The answer lies inside the Inn, with a doorway to another realm.
A realm where children are also disappearing.

Detective Sunny (Royal Sun) Cloud's life is the stuff of country
and western songs. He's been shot up, fed up and his woman is
gone. He has one last murder to investigate and then he's off
to a Florida retirement.
But
this last case proves to be his most challenging. Library Director
Ian Fisher has been bludgeoned to death with a paperweight, and
the fingerprints on the murder weapon belong to Joanne Gallagher,
mother of rookie detective Mitch Gallagher.
A
former alcoholic, Joanne Gallagher is newly sober and newly separated.
Only a few details stand in the way of her redemption—those
prints on the murder weapon and the scratches on the victim's
face both came from her hand. She tries to explain but no one
is listening. She’s considering making a false confession
in order to save her son’s career.
Detective
Sunny Cloud thinks Joanne Gallagher is as cute as a new baby chick
and as guilty as hell. Will she be able to convince him of her
innocence before it’s too late?
Patty O’Donnell is often not what her rural Irish neighbors
expect. A smart, strong-minded American, she is married to an
Irish Steeplechase jockey, and works in her father-in-law’s
racing stables as his assistant.
When
a chance discovery reveals that a neighbor is being abused by
her second husband, Patty and her family mobilize to help her,
taking in her exiled teenage son and initiating a search and salvage
effort for a sunken ship that’s cargo could help free the
woman fro her abuser. When the boy later disappears and a kidnapping
attempt on Patty is thwarted, the others immediately suspect the
abusive husband. Patty is sent out of the country, while detectives
attempt to locate the missing boy.
Patty
joins the search for the shipwreck, unwittingly making herself
the target of an international gang of thieves who want the salvage
for themselves, and are willing to kill to get it.
In 1836, the action never stops for Ace Dover's family at the
Three Springs Ranch. Rustling and lawlessness prevail in the Florida
Territory, and adopted son Treff Ballowe has his hands full trying
to protect the TSR pastures. Putting Joel Godwin in the Fort Brooke
stockade only intensifies his problems by fueling Grandma Godwin's
vow to "see Treff dead".
The Dovers' only daughter, feisty, redhead Marvelous, shows her
spunk by delivering a neighbor's baby, but can she save her new
husband, Hank O'Mara, from the dreaded yellow fever that's sweeping
the Territory?
When Rusty's horse returns with an empty saddle, the Dover family
fears the worst. Can Rusty's love for the Indian maiden who rescues
him survive the merger of the two vastly separated cultures?
Captain Caleb's paddlewheeler seems perfect for shipping TSR cattle
to Cuba, but is the captain to be trusted?
These and many other questions haunt Ace Dover as he and Amaly
and their children struggle to survive in the rugged Florida Territory.
Political controversy is not a new concept to Floridians. In 1838,
long before chads and punch cards were ever heard of, Florida
Territory Governor Call plans for a constitutional convention
to bring Florida to statehood, and questions abound. Should the
territory be divided into two states as some wish, or even three?
Should the capitol be located in Pensacola, Tallahassee, or St.
Augustine?
When Ace Dover is elected as one of 53 delegates to the convention
in St. Joseph, he turns the operation of Three Springs Ranch over
to his four sons. Will they be able to keep TSR afloat against
the threat of outlaws, renegade Indians, and a scheming woman
who has her sites set on the Dover fortune? Not if Grandma Godwin
and her son Joel get their wish to "see Treff dead."
Can Captain Caleb be trusted to safely transport TSR cattle to
Cuba? Just who is Noah LeBlanc, and what is his part in Amber-Jade's
devious plot to get her hands on the Dovers' gold? Will Marvelous
and her husband Hank O'Mara return to the TSR in time to help?
These questions and more surround Ace and Amaly Dover as they
struggle to keep their family safe in the wild and lawless Florida
Territory.
